Recent Events

The 20 member Northeast Louisiana Horn Ensemble (image at left - picture by Susan W. Rogers) presented their annual concert on April 8th, 2013 at the University of Louisiana at Monroe. Their program included Finlandia, by Jean Sibelius, arranged for horns by Takeshi Takahashi, and Old West Medley, a medley of music from three famous westerns, How the West was Won, Blazing Saddles, and The Magnificent Seven.
NYC Freelancer Shelagh Abate presented a master class at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge on March 19, 2013.
Kristine Coreil hosted the 2013 NSU Horn Day at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches on January. 27th, 2013. Guest artists included the NSU Faculty Woodwind Quintet and Adam Black, 2nd horn in the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra and a recent NSU graduate.

James Boldin (The University of Louisiana at Monroe) performed at the 44th International Horn Symposium in Denton, TX (May 2012) and at Mahidol University in Thailand (June 2012).
Les Cors de la Louisiane (Thomas Hundemer, Kristine Coreil, Craig Pratt, James Boldin) performed recitals at The University of Louisiana at Monroe and Centenary College (April 2012).
Thomas Hundemer performed Jeffrey Snedeker's "Goodbye to a Friend" at the beginning of the Marshall Symphony (TX) concert on February 20, 2012. The performance was in memory of Shirley Handler, a longtime Marshall Symphony board member.
On January 8 2012, Kristine Coreil hosted the annual Horn Day at Northwestern State University of Louisiana. Guest artist for the event was Karl Kemm.
Current LSU DMA candidate Arisia Gilmore and recent MM graduate Matt Taylor tied for the Acadiana (LA) symphony's 3rd horn audition and will be splitting 3rd horn duties there this season (2011-2012)
Former MM grad, Linda Elliott, is the new Adjunct Professor of Horn at Mississippi State University in Starkville, MS.
The LSU Brass Ensemble, under the direction of Joseph Skillen (professor of tuba at LSU), just completed a very successful tour of the Dallas/Fort Worth and Houston areas and performed a fanfare at the Dallas Wind Symphony Concert. The horn section included Erin Kessler, Freddy Patrick, Devin Chamberlin, Sydney Hawkins and Chris Hochkeppel.
Students from the studios of Brian Shaw, assistant professor of trumpet, James West, associate professor of trumpet, Steven Menard, visiting professor of trombone, and Brett Dietz, associate professor of percussion all at LSU performed on the concerts.
James Boldin, Assistant Professor at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, presented a clinic titled "Stopped and Muted Horn: A Guide for Directors" at the 65th Annual Midwest Clinic in December.
Black Bayou Brass, resident faculty brass ensemble at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, had an opportunity to meet author Stephen King during their recent recruiting tour to the Dallas, TX area. Mr. King happened to be speaking at McKinney North High School on the same day as the trio's visit, and band director Alan Harkey invited them to perform some additional music prior to the lecture. Pictured below are (L to R) Alex Noppe, Micah Everett, Stephen King, and James Boldin. Black Bayou Brass has also been invited to perform a guest recital at Mahidol University (Bangkok, Thailand) in June, 2012, and at the National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors National Conference in November 2012.

Catherine Roche-Wallace (University of Louisiana at Lafayette) performed and presented at the 43rd International Horn Symposium at San Francisco State University, June 20-25.
Seth Orgel (Louisiana State University, Atlantic Brass Quintet) performed and taught at the 18th annual Atlantic Brass Quintet International Seminar, held on the campus of Sonoma State University (June 13-18) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (July 24-August 6). Seth also performed the Poulenc sextet with Christopher O'Reilly and the LSU TIMM Quintet.
Seth's students have also been busy. Dafydd Bevil, a graduating senior, will be attending Roosevelt University in Chicago for his MM, in the studio of Dale Clevenger, beginning in Fall 2011. Mathew Taylor, a graduating master's student, performed with the Ohio Light Opera in Summer 2011.
James Boldin (University of Louisiana at Monroe) was recently awarded the Dr. William R. Hammond Professorship in Liberal Arts. The appointment is for three years, renewable annually. James plans to use the funds from the professorship to record a solo CD and purchase a natural horn for the studio at ULM.
Thomas Hundemer (Shreveport Symphony, Centenary College) performed with the Des Moines Metro Opera orchestra in Des Moines, IA, and the Cabrillo Festival Orchestra at the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary music in Santa Cruz, CA.
Kristine Coreil (Northwestern State University of Louisiana, Shreveport Symphony) performed a guest recital of French music for horn and piano on February 16th at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
